THE $1,000,000 SECRET OF THE PROS!
Did you know that all of your favorite guitar players know how to place, licks, scales, riffs and melodies over chords perfectly, by using: "Chord tones" Chord tones are the same notes, that are in a melody, scale or a riff, which match the notes of a chord. And in order for you to become a great guitar player you must learn what they, are and know how to use them effectively. So that you can sound great and blow people away!
All chords consist of intervals: The, Major chord has a: ROOT, THIRD, and a FIFTH.
Let’s say: G Maj chord has: G-root, B-third, D-fifth.You can Take any one of those tones and use it to start the beginning of a solo. Take the G-major pentatonic scale over the G-major chord in this case start it on the root and it will sound like you know what you are doing.
If you are not clear regarding The Root,Third,Fifth, which is called a “triad” or a chord:
You might want to take your guitar learning a little bit more seriously like all the great players do, and learn it, because it is the foundation which all chords and melodies are built upon, and until you learn it you will struggle with your guitar playing.
It is true: That anything in life that is worth living for, takes a little bit of effort.
But if you do understand the 1,3,5. (root, third, fifth,)
1)Pick two chords, G Maj and D Maj
2)Pick a one octave G maj pentatonic scale (hopefully you know it)
3)Play the root note of the ( G) major pentatonic scale on the 1st beat of the first chord and improvise till you get to the next chord (D) when you get to the (D)chord target the (d) note on the 1st beat of the same scale. (that will be the 5th)
And you will notice that it sounds right. Because you are targeting the CHORD TONE”of that particular chord.
If you add a different chord, let’s say an E major: target the (E) note of that chord, because (E) is the root of the (E major chord)
It doesn’t matter what (E) you play on the neck as long it is an (E). That’s the ROOT of that particular chord.
This applies to the Third and the Fifth also. You can try targeting any one of these chord tones in any combination, use it to your taste, spice it up!
I guarantee your guitar playing will take on a whole new dimension!
Thousands of musicians who are making millions of dollars are using it!
And so could You!
